Before I explain the admission procedures, I want you to know about the dental colleges in Haryana, their seat matrix and basic information.

Dental Colleges in Haryana

Presently, there are 8 dental colleges in Haryana, which include one government dental college and seven private dental colleges offering both Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses.

I am going to give you a quick rundown on the MDS course before we get into the specific details of the MDS admissions process in Haryana. After earning a BDS or undergraduate degree in dentistry, one can pursue a three-year postgraduate program called the Masters of Dental Surgery, or MDS. 

There are nine dental specialties available for specialization in this course: Public Health Dentistry, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry and endodontics, Pedodontics, Periodontology, Oral Medicine and radiology, and Oral Pathology and microbiology.

Every year, candidates who have successfully completed their BDS course and wish to apply for post-graduation are given the opportunity to apply for MDS admission through the NEET-MDS Exam. 

Basics of MDS Admission

For all the dental colleges except Manav Rachna Dental College and MM Dental College, the counseling is conducted by Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, on behalf of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Haryana.

The MDS admissions process for Manav Rachana Dental College and MM Dental College is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee of India (MCCI) along with all other deemed universities through All-India NEET MDS Counseling. 

Eligibility Criteria MDS Admission in Haryana

The eligibility criteria for MDS admission in any dental institution in Haryana require fulfilling the following criteria:

  • The student should be an Indian citizen and have passed the BDS course from an institution recognized by the Dental Council of India.
  • The student must have completed a one-year compulsory rotatory internship, and the candidate should be registered with any of the State Dental Councils / Dental Council of India (DCI).
  • However, to obtain the minimum eligibility marks in the NEET MDS exam, it is obligatory to apply for MDS admission in Haryana. Every year, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announces the NEET-MDS cut-off through its official website – mcc.nic.in.

The initial cut-off percentile was announced as 50 percentile for the General category, 45 percentile for the UR-PWD category, and 40 percentile for SC, ST, and OBC in accordance with the NEET MDS qualifying criteria for NEET MDS 2022.

The first NEET MDS cut-off score was 263 for the UR-PWD category, 227 for the SC, ST, and OBC categories, and 245 for the General category students.

However, NBEMS revised this previously declared criterion, and a second cut-off percentile was announced after the second round of MDS 2022 counseling. The revised qualifying percentile for NEET MDS 2022 was 24.28 percentile for the General (UR/EWS) categories, 19.28 percentile for each UR-PWD category, and 14.28 percentile for the SC, ST, and OBC categories.

The updated NEET MDS cut-off score was 157 for the UR-PWD category, 138 for the SC, ST, and OBC categories, and 174 for the General category.

In 2023, the first minimum qualifying percentile for NEET MDS was announced as 50 percentile for the General category, 45 percentile for the UR-PWD, and 40 percentile for the SC, ST, and OBC, accounting for the cut-off scores as follows, 263 for the General category, 245 for the UR-PWD category, and 227 for the SC, ST, and OBC categories.

The previous percentile was also revised for NEET MDS 2023 and was re-announced after the round of MDS 2023 counseling. The revised qualifying percentile for NEET MDS 2023 was 18.193rd percentile for the General (UR/EWS) categories, 13.193rd percentile for each UR-PWD category, and 8.193rd percentile for the SC, ST, and OBC categories. The second cut-off score for NEET MDS 2023 was 168 for the General category, 149 for the UR-PWD category, and 125 for the SC, ST, and OBC categories.

The NEET MDS 2024 exam is yet to be conducted and is scheduled for February 9, 2024, as per the tentative schedule announced by the NBEMS on November 9, 2023.

Procedure for MDS Admission in Haryana

The admissions procedure for MDS colleges affiliated with the Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, the counseling is carried out online through their website (https://dmer.haryana.gov.in/) and regular updates can be obtained from the web portal of DMEHR Haryana https://www.uhsr.ac.in/ .Therefore, if you are an MDS aspirant looking for postgraduate colleges in Haryana, you have to participate in the state counseling of Haryana through these websites.

Here the procedure for MDS management quota admission and government quota admission procedure is the same. There will be changes in the seat matrix and fee structure only.

  • Interested candidates have to register online through the admission web portal, http://hry.online-counseling.co.in/ designated by the Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak. A minimal registration fee might be applicable, approximately around 1250-2500 rupees, based on the applicant category. 
  • Once you register, you will be directed to log in and initiate the process to complete your registration. It requires you to fill out your credentials and upload your basic documents to the web portal. 
  • After registration, a state merit list is prepared on the basis of NEET MDS results. It is a mandate to meet the eligibility criteria for NEET MDS to pursue admission. 
  • Choosing the course/specialty/institution is enabled as per the online choice-filling schedule, and choices are not editable after the last date announced, after which the results will be declared.
  • Based on the NEET rank of the MDS aspirants, a provisional allotment is declared. However, the final allotment and confirmation of admission are conducted through physical verification of eligibility and original documents only.
  • The provisionally allotted candidates must appear physically for document verification with all original documents before the admissions committee at Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.

On the other hand, to procure MDS admission at Manav Rachna Dental College and MM Dental College, interested students have to participate in the all-India NEET MDS counseling conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee of India (MCC) through their website, https://mcc.nic.in/.

In case there is a vacancy after the first round of counseling due to any reason, such seats will be filled up during the second round of counseling.

The MDS seats are primarily distributed into two categories in the government dental colleges of Haryana, wherein 50% of the seats are reserved for the All-India Merit Category and 50% of seats are reserved for the Haryana State Quota seats. 

The State Quota seats are further classified into various categories, like 40% reserved for the In-service category / INS,  25% reserved for the Institutional Preference / IP category, and 5% reserved for the PWBD category.

  • INS seats: In-service category seats for regular Haryana Government in-service candidates.
  • IP seats: Institutional Preference reservation for students who passed BDS from Haryana state.

In the private dental colleges of Haryana, 50% of seats are reserved for the Haryana State Quota Seats, which are similarly reserved for various categories mentioned above in the government seat distribution.  The remaining  50% of the seats are attributed to the management category.

Extra Fees – Please Note

Apart from the tuition fees, a certain amount of miscellaneous fees is also charged during the time of admission These miscellaneous charges include various types of fees, such as college security, material charges, university charges, thesis charges, etc., and may range up to Rs.30,000 in government dental colleges, while in private dental colleges, the charges may range from Rs.1,00,000 to Rs.1,50,000 a year, depending on the institute of choice. 

The hostel fees and food charges may range from Rs.75,000 – Rs.1,50,000 per year, depending on the type of college and amenities provided.
